RILO AP participated by video conference at the 10th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention against transnational Organized Crime, which took place in Vienna on 12-16 October. This conference was tabling a draft resolution to recognize environmental crime as a serious form of crime falling under the scope of this quasi-universal convention (190 States Parties). The conference organized a high-level side event in order to raise awareness about environmental crime among the diplomatic community in Vienna, as well as crime prevention and criminal justice practitioners.

During the "Cross-regional perspectives from crime prevention and criminal justice experts" part of the conference, the Deputy Head of RILO AP gave a speech about significant environmental issues: adoption of a comprehensive and holistic approach in preventing and detecting environmental crime for preservation for our right to live on Earth and environmental resilience, the complexity of environmental crime linked to political corruption, fraud, theft, and money laundering, the necessity for smuggling of environmentally hazardous goods and endangered species animals and plants, strengthening enforcement capacity and joint global and regional response.
